The Best Places to Hike in the San Fernando Valley

  |     |   Your Guide To Living In West Hills

There's no doubt that the San Fernando Valley is one of the most beautiful places in Los Angeles. With its stunning mountain views and acres of green countryside, it's the perfect place for a hike. Whether you're looking for a challenging hike or an easy walk in the park, these five trails are sure to please. So lace up your sneakers and get ready for some serious fun.

Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area – Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area is the go-to spot for hikers in Los Angeles. If it's your first time hiking, the trails are easy enough to feel accomplished but not so easy that you won't break a sweat! There are several trails in this area and we suggest first taking a trip to the Sandstone Peak Trailhead for access to a plethora of paths. Go along the Backbone Trail Access on Yerba Buena to get gorgeous views of the ocean or the Circle X Ranch for a peaceful and quiet experience. If you want a bit more of an intense workout, go along the Eagle Rock Trail. Whether you are looking for something easy or hard, there is plenty of opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the area and get a great workout at the same time!

O'Melveny Park – This hidden paradise is tucked away in the valley but is well worth a visit. It's directly accessible from Granada Hills and has many different trails of varying difficulty levels. There are also plenty of picnic spots for you to take a break at along the way or pack a delicious lunch and have it on one of the park tables!

Lake Balboa - This peaceful lake in Van Nuys has just what you need after a long day at work or school. The Lake Balboa Trail is considered easy and is 1.3 miles long so it won't be enough to tire out any seasoned hikers, but perfect for if you're in the mood for casual stroll.

Limekiln Canyon Trail  – The Limekiln Canyon Trail is a 3.8 mile hike in Porter Ranch that's great for all skill levels and provides an escape from the stressors of city life. Located just minutes away from our apartments, you can walk to this trail with ease when it’s time to get some fresh air or take your pup on their daily constitutional. You don’t have to go far before you feel like you're miles away from any worries.
